It's ridiculous that he had to spend $200,000 of his own money. The chiro quacks should have to pay his legal expenses too.

Read The Big Bang, BTW. Excellent book. Worth the price and a good way to support him. I'm sure his other books are good too, although I haven't personally read them.

I don't see how chiropractic can help diseases like asthma. I know it's done wonders for my back (and my GP believes it has helped, too), but claiming it helps anything beyond joints and muscles is absurd IMO.

Great question - here's your answer:

The cervical spine begins at the base of the skull. Seven vertebrae make up the cervical spine with eight pairs of cervical nerves. The individual cervical vertebrae are abbreviated C1, C2, C3, C4, C5, C6 and C7. The cervical nerves are also abbreviated; C1 through C8.

Cervicals C3-C4-C5 - gives 3 nerves that make up the phrenic nerves - which in turn innervate the diaphragm. Sometimes (not all the time) compression on those nerves at the level of the neck, can compress these nerves (or the scalene muscles that surround the area) and can affect breathing. Also, the nerves that help the bronchial tubes relax are affected as well. Most notably is the T1 and T2 (thoracic) nerves that help with breathing (and heart rhythm) too.

Since the nerves that control the body exit out between the vertebrae (except for the ANS nerves (your autonomic nervous system is the part of your nervous system that controls involuntary actions, such as the beating of your heart and the widening of arteries) it would make perfect sense that in ADDITION to muscle and joint aches and pains, that the nerves can be influenced too. Right?

Bump you funny bone (on your elbow) and feel the tingle in the PINKY. Thats basically a "mini model" for neurology and chiropractic.

I spent over 7 years studying the brain, spinal cord and vertebrae - not just the books, but also dissection, to learn all of this. ONLY in chiropractic colleges are the dots all connected, which is why MD's aren't aware of this... yet.

It's all in the anatomy and neurology books. You can look it up and see for yourself : )
